Terms of Use.
Plain terms for a plain deal: the app is free, use it lawfully, and understand what it does and doesn't promise.

The agreement
By using the BurnPony app, the note relay at burnpony.app, or this website, you agree to these terms. BurnPony is developed and operated by NorseHorse, an independent developer ("the developer").
The service
BurnPony provides self-destructing notes: text encrypted on your device, stored temporarily as ciphertext on a relay, and delivered through a link that opens in a web browser. Notes are deleted after their view allowance or expiry, whichever comes first. The app and service are currently free of charge.
Acceptable use
Use BurnPony only for lawful purposes. Do not use it to harass, threaten, or defraud others, to distribute unlawful content, or to interfere with or overload the relay. The viewer includes a report function; notes reported for abuse may be reviewed and removed from the relay, and creation is rate-limited to keep the service healthy.
Your link, your responsibility
A note link (plus its passphrase, if you set one) is the sole means of reading a note. Anyone you give it to — or anyone who obtains it from the channel you sent it through — can read the note until it burns. Choose your channel accordingly; the developer cannot recover, reset, or re-issue a link.
Ephemerality is the product
Notes are designed to be irrecoverable after they burn or expire. Do not use BurnPony as storage for anything you need to keep: once the ciphertext is deleted, no copy exists anywhere, including for the developer.
No warranty
BurnPony is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The developer does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app, the relay, or this website.
The relay
The relay exists to hold sealed envelopes briefly and may be maintained, rate-limited, or evolved to keep the service healthy. Envelopes are transient and are never archived. You may point the app at a relay you operate yourself; notes on your relay are your own responsibility.
Changes
These terms may be updated as the app evolves; updates appear on this page with a new date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
